Staple Hill Band

Staple Hill Band of The Salvation Army was formed on the 12th February 1896 and has been making music ever since. Our primary aim is to communicate the good news of Jesus Christ within our church and in open-air activities, and in the same way as other Salvation Army bands throughout the world, you will often see the band out in the community of Staple Hill presenting its ministry in music making.

The Salvation Army at Staple Hill has a strong emphasis on family and this is echoed in the band where 6 parents share fellowship with their children and and we also have 3 sets of brothers and sisters. The band totals just over 40 players all of whom are committed Christians and give of their time voluntarily. In fact, this is now one of the largest Salvation Army bands in the south of England.  All of the band are volunteers, giving of their free time, and a wide range of professions are represented by the band’s members: from financial auditors to architects, social workers to salesmen. But all are united by the desire to use their talents to serve the community of Staple Hill.

The Band can be seen in and around the local area, either in Page Park during the summer months, supporting the annual Remembrance Parade, or at Christmastime, carolling in the local area or at The Mall (Cribbs Causeway).

The current Bandmaster is Marc Willetts.
Marc was appointed Bandmaster of Staple Hill Band in January 2020, a role which he is privileged to undertake in Salvation Army musical ministry. Marc has been a member of the Band for 40 years and until his appointment as Bandmaster was
the principal cornet in the Band. Trained as a professional musician, Marc was a member of the RAF band for 25 years before moving across to St Peters Hospice where he manages their team of volunteers.

During recent years, the Band has opened its doors to anyone interested in joining for rehearsals as a guest player, or to simply listen to the music.
